9 Marks: The Traits of True Christian Character

9 Marks: The Traits of True Christian Character

We’re digging in to the nine fruits of the Spirit from Galatians 5:22-23. When we walk with the Spirit, we begin to bear the mark of Jesus: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

The Mark of Self-Control

July 12, 2015

As we conclude our sermon series called, “Nine Marks”, we’re looking at the final fruit of the Spirit as found in Galatians 5:22-23. Technology and our culture make it evermore difficult to control our own desires. We learn through 2 Peter 1:1-6, though, that when Christ lives in us, he gives us his control so self-control ends up being more like “Christ-control”.

The Mark of Gentleness

July 5, 2015

As we continue our sermon series on the Nine Marks of true Christian character, Pastor Gary helped us see how the gentleness that Christ shows us can change our thoughts, actions, responses and relationships.

The Mark of Faithfulness

June 28, 2015

One of our teaching team members, Justin Norden, continued our sermon series on the Nine Marks of True Christian Character, on the fruit of Faithfulness. Christ offers us the ultimate example of faithfulness, and only by accepting his salvation can we truly be faithful in all of our relationships.

The Mark of Goodness

June 21, 2015

Pastor Jonathan Minter continued our series on the Nine Marks of True Christian Christian Character by helping us see how the fruit of goodness can grow in our lives. In 2 Thessalonians 1:11-12, Paul prays for his Christian brothers and sisters, that God would make them worthy of His calling, that God would fulfill every resolve for good and work of faith with power, and that God would glorify the name of Christ through them. The fruit of goodness helps challenge us to make sure God’s goodness gets brought to every area of our lives.

The Mark of Kindness

June 14, 2015

Pastor Stephen Combs continues our sermon series on the fruit of the Spirit from Galatians 5:22-23, this week on the mark of kindness. The kindness God has shown towards us creates the vessel that allows kindness to flow through us and out towards those around us.

The Mark of Patience

June 7, 2015

Pastor Gary continued preaching on the fruit of the Spirit from Galatians 5:22-23, this week on the fruit of patience. Patience in the biblical sense is not just waiting, but enduring in the strength of the Lord, having a long fuse. Christ’s mark of patience is about a state of being, bearing with one another, keeping a lid on our anger, and become more like Christ who is patient with us.

The Mark of Peace

May 31, 2015

Pastor Gary Combs continued our sermon series on the fruit of the Spirit as found in Galatians 5:22-23 by helping us understand how to let the peace of Christ rule our lives. This peace comes when we submit to God’s will and allow him to determine our identity, thoughts, will, and relationships with others.

The Mark of Joy

May 24, 2015

Pastor Jonathan Combs teaches from Philippians 4:1-9 on the true joy that comes from the Holy Spirit. This joy is not based on our circumstances, but is found only in the Lord, can be nurtured only in prayer, and changes our thought processes based on the gospel.

The Mark of Love

May 17, 2015

Pastor Gary Combs kicked off our study of the 9 fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5:22-23 by looking at how God’s perfect love in the form of Jesus Christ can motivate our actions, be both our example and source of power, and how we can rely on Christ’s love to sustain our relationships.

Bearing the Marks

May 10, 2015
