Introducing Dub Kidz!
We’ve got some exciting things planned for our Children’s Ministry this fall. Here’s what’s going on:
Introducing Dub Kidz!
Our Children’s Ministry has gone by various names over the years (like Kids Town, Great Adventure, and most recently Reel Deal when we moved into the former Regal Cinemas). We thought it was time for a refresh of our name and an alignment with some of our other ministries. So check out our new logo:
Why Dub Kidz?
- Dub stands for the “W” in WCC
- Our youth ministry is Dub Youth (for 6th – 12th graders), so there is some consistency now across all of our age groups
- We do KidzFest each year in the summer. So now we will do Dub Kidz each week, and each summer, we blow it out with KidzFest.
- Why Kidz instead of Kids? Well, because it is more fun to write it that way…
We’ll make the official switch to Dub Kidz on August 28th.
Introducing a new 4th and 5th grade program
Our 4th and 5th graders will still be part of our Dub Kidz ministry, but they are going to get a separate program on Sunday mornings in the Dub Hub. That space had been used by our Iglesia Hispana ministry, but is now vacant on Sunday mornings.
So, starting August 28th, our 4th and 5th grade boys and girls will meet together for the first part of the service for age-appropriate worship, fun and Bible memorization. Then, they will split between boys and girls in a similar small group format that they have now with the same teachers they have now for the Bible story and discussion. They are going to use a different curriculum than our preschool to 3rd graders – one that is still Bible based, but that allows for some more discussion and application to their lives.
Josh Hockaday is heading up this new program and is looking for volunteers to join those who have already been teaching our 4th and 5th graders.
New classes for our preschool to 3rd graders
One of the benefits of our new 4th – 5th grade program is that we will have another classroom to use for our preschool – 3rd graders. So we’ll be adding a new class to continue to try and keep our class sizes under 10 children per class. We are constantly looking at our class sizes and distribution and we make adjustments whenever necessary and this will allow us to have 4 classes to serve this age group instead of the 3 classes we had before. Of course we can only have a new class if we have new teachers to teach!
Promotion of our rising 6th graders
The last Sunday for rising 6th graders in our Children’s Ministry will be August 21st. We’ll have a special ceremony for them in the Adult Worship Service on August 28th and then they’ll be able to attend the first Dub Youth meeting of the year that evening!
The rest of our children will be moving to classes based on their upcoming grade on August 28th.
Nursery expansion is on the horizon
We’re currently investigating ways we can expand the amount of space our nursery has. God has surely blessed our church with babies! So we’re looking to expand our space and our volunteer base for this program to continue to provide loving care for children up to 3 years old.
